Off Port Service

A launch service is offered on a 24 hour basis. Current launches based in Port of Galle have the carrying capacity of about 15 to 25 passengers and a deck capacity for about 4 MT of cargo. Their operational speed is around 10 knots. Loading / unloading can be done by use of shore crane whilst at Port and the mother vessel's Crane is needed to transfer cargo on board, whilst at off port.

Vessels can be serviced at inner anchorage just within 3 to 5 miles from the Pilot grounds and/or at mid ocean within 10 to 15 miles off shore, depending on the vessels requirements/ route taken. Vessels also do not have to anchor as most of the services could be provided whilst still underway.

No Government Authorities board the vessel and no Port call is registered. In order to ensure a smooth / speedier operation the Launch proceeds to the off port location pending arrival of the vessel and meets the vessel at a pre arranged location .

Transit airport is Colombo at which point immigration/ emigration formalities are completed and crew transferred overland to/from Galle – a distance of 150 km.
